At MenAsWell, we believe that exploring sexuality safely is not only about pleasure, it’s about consent, communication, and boundaries. Our collaboration with Kinky Masterclasses are designed as playful, educational spaces where queer people and allies can learn tools for safer intimacy, expand their knowledge, and connect with community.
Shibari, the Japanese art of rope bondage, is not just knots and rope. It’s a powerful practice in trust, negotiation, and respect. Every tie is a dialogue. Every knot is an agreement. That’s why we see shibari as a fantastic way to practice the very skills that are at the heart of our work at MenAsWell.
What to Expect
This hands-on Kinky Masterclass will be facilitated by Dante Woods (Mr Rubber 2023) and Natsumi Scarlett, two experienced educators in rope and consent culture. Together, they will guide you through:
A short history of shibari and its cultural roots
Introduction to different materials and rope options
Physical and mental safety basics
How to negotiate and communicate boundaries
Consent as an embodied practice
Basic knots and ties for arms and legs
A practical demonstration
Who Can Join?
No partner or prior experience needed
Open to beginners, the curious, and anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of consent in practice
Queer, body-positive, and trauma-aware space
What to Bring
Bring your open mind, and, if you have it, your own rope. If not, don’t worry: we’ll provide everything else you need.
